MARTY WALKER GALLERY

PRESENTS

FRANCES BAGLEY WITNESS OCT 20NOV 25, 2006

Marty Walker Gallery presents new work by artist Frances Bagley. With this current body of work, Bagley continues to address aspects of the human body but has taken a turn toward the surreal by incorporating realistic video imagery with sculpture and installation. Under the exhibition title: Witness, Bagley asks questions of both the subject and the viewer by addressing issues of reality, identity and privacy. She creates works that are alluring and yet often uncomfortable to perceive and while seeking to portray the immediate and the vulnerable in her work, she always makes the process visible.

500X Gallery :: Sweet Tart :: opening reception

Posted by Callie Thu, 05 Oct 2006 18:21:00 GMT

Sweet Tart :: October 7 – 29 2006

500X Gallery 500 Exposition Avenue Dallas, TX 75226 214-828-1111

Opening Reception Saturday, October 7, 2006 6-10 PM featuring new works by: John Oliver Lewis & Jessica McCambly

John Oliver Lewis uses recognizable forms combined with abstract patchwork to create sculptures that generate an erratic sense of purpose. These flights of imagination are supported by the inspection of architecture, natural land formations, caricature and vehicles of travel, as well as by cartoons, contemporary fashion, knick-knacks, fishing lures, boy’s and girl’s toys and relationships. The resulting sculpture is a comical union of his manifestations that has the appearance of candy.

Jessica McCambly is interested in the potential for emotion and nuance within an aesthetically minimal context. Her works on paper are an exploration of the idea that formal simplicity can evoke complexity and intimacy in experience.

Works by Jessica McCambly:

“ithinkimfloating” (detail) Embossing Enamel, Acrylic on board 2006 (left)

“Have You Ever Met Devotion?” (detail) Embossing Enamel, Acrylic on board 2006 (right)

“I create installations using ornament as a tool to make suggestions about the nature of narrative structure. I draw highly decorative arrangements of shapes to be embedded with unexpected motifs that are in reference to an enigmatic story continuously changing as it unfolds. I hope to inspire the intellectual creativity of the viewer to uncover new stories or meanings from within the psychological experience of seeing.??? ~ Nancy Brown
