Friday Dec. 8, 2006 Ladytron will perform at Hailey’s in Denton, Texas. Also performing are Dreamtiger and The Burning Hotels. It would be safe to say that this is going to be a massive party, so you will want to arrive early!! Hailey’s says no cover for the night which is hard to believe and I found the flyer (above) which states tickets are available through camelsmokes.com—-and you have to sign up first…and have a login ID and password and all that jazz. The site is not working properly at this time but when I find out about tickets, I will pass the info along. You can also get help finding tickets by calling 1-866-988-8800—which sends you to your local camel rep. So basically this place is going to be smokin!!

10/27/06 :: FRI :: Secret Machines @ Lizard Lounge Dallas, TX
Secret Machines are a three-piece group originally from Dallas, Texas with a sound rooted somewhere between Led Zeppelin and psychedelic rock. The Secret Machines story begins in Dallas, Texas, where Josh and brothers Ben and Brandon served their musical apprenticeships in the Nineties with such bands as UFOFU, Tripping Daisy, Captain Audio, Comet and When Babies Eat Pennies. When the three musicians found themselves at loose ends in July 2000, they decided, says Brandon, “to do something that was a little more significant to us.” Secret Machines was formed, and plans were immediately hatched for trading the big skies of Texas in for New York City.

I saw MuteMath perform at the Gypsy Tea Room this past friday Oct. 13. Shiny Toy Guns and Jonzetta opened up the show. I missed Jonzetta, but saw all of Shiny Toy Guns’ performance. The place was packed, I didn’t realize what a fan-base MuteMath has. It was a much younger crowd than I usually see, half the bar had to be closed off to control the alcohol.
Shiny Toy Guns have a full, rich sound. The female vocalist has a great voice, that was the highlight of the show. Some of the songs were pretty good but It seemed they lacked some life experience. It mimicked the 80s electo goth sounds of New Order, Joy Divison, and Depeche Mode…sans the drugs, darkness, and sadness. It seemed a little contrived and not very authentic, I was not really wowed by this one.
MuteMath’s latest album is ok I guess. Wait, I mean this new U2 album is well, U2. Wait, is this Oasis? I felt a little tricked with this band. There was something wrong I couldn’t place my finger on it…oh wait there it is, the suck button! They did give a high-energy performance…the lead singer did a little crowd surfing, threw a chair into the set-up, there was some mayhem up in the tea room that night. Their instrumentals are great, but the lyrics are just horrible, the worst thing ever. They should just mute the lyrics and do instrumental pieces, that would be great!! The band has potential, but again it seemed contrived and shallow. I felt like I left with a pocketful of whammies!!

Beck’s brand new album The Information was finally released this Tuesday, October 3rd. To celebrate the occasion Mr. Hanson has embarked on a short and sweet little tour. Joining him and his band for this mini-jaunt will be the now infamous marionettes (created by Puppetown Productions) that added a bizarre vaudevillian slant to his summer 2006 tour.
The Information is comprised of 15 songs and a DVD that includes “homemade” videos for each track, all shot in the studio during the recording sessions, according to a press release. Fans get a chance to show their creative side too. The album itself comes with a blank CD sleeve and a sheet of stickers for the listener to make their own booklet.
