Founded in 2003 and headquartered in New York City, Beck(y) is a shrewdly designed collection of handcrafted,
one-of-a-kind bags and accessories constructed with recycled skateboards and plush, high-end fabrics.
Beck(y)’s handbags named sk8bags are hand made, and a very time-consuming. She washes
the decks and removes the grip tape, but makes a clear conscious effort to alter the decks as little as possible
because she strives to always uphold the integrity
of her source material.
Recycled skateboards are vital to Beck’s operation, and she’s fortunate to have a handful of generous supporters
who send her used and warranty boards on a regular basis. Beck currently receives decks from 5boro Skateboards,
Giant Distribution, Zumiez, Simi Valley’s Skatelab Skatepark, Old Star Skateshop, ZJ Boarding House, among others.
To keep the recycled decks coming her way, and to give back to the skateboarding community at the same time, Beck
established the Boards 4 Bowls program. For every used board she receives Beck donates $3 to a variety of non-profit
organizations dedicated to building and maintaining public skateparks across the country. Beck currently works with
the Tony Hawk Foundation, Jeff Anderson Memorial Fund and Elemental Awareness.

You can find Sk8bags available at “Kül“:http://www.houseofkul.com/, 1303 Main Street, The Davis Building, Downtown Dallas (214-745-5585)
or you can purchase online at beckycity.com

Escama is a new companies that combine clever design with ethical trading to create a line of bags and purses made with recycled aluminium woven together with nylon fishing line.
The combination of the metallic material and the nylon thread results in a line of bags that are both very soft but with an slightly aggressive urban edge, with the fish scale pattern recalling medieval chainmails.
ESCAMA, “fish scales” in Portuguese, consists of three friends working out of San Francisco and Brasilia, Brazil. Their eco-friendly concepts are both fashionable and functional.

Amy Pfaffman creates jewelry out of functional objects. This ring is made from the eyes of a Teddy Bear.
Amy Pfaffman’s degree in industrial design from Rhode Island School of Design in 1990 cemented her appreciation for functional objects. In her jewelry she turns functional objects into art using cold connections and mechanical joints paired with sterling silver. She has a way of making ordinary things, many people generally would throw away, into something to appreciate and admire. She hopes to inspire others to appreciate the beauty in the things they use every day and know that great thought was put into their design.
You can find earrings, bracelets, necklaces made out of almost anyting imaginable, chopsticks, coffee beans, fuses, guitar picks, vinyl records just to name a few.
You can purchase her jewerly at many museum gift shops and other fine stores located across the U.S.
