Here are some top picks for live music entertainment for the upcoming weeks in Dallas, Texas. Great music acts can be found playing everywhere this February in the Dallas area…you can experience some great local bands such as Fatty Lumpkin, Centro-matic, and Congratulations..or see some other great bands. I highly recommend checking out Lotus, Pnuma Trio, and Built to Spill... Go out and enjoy some live music!!!
The holiday festivities have already started. In between the shopping and planning, take time with your family to enjoy the wonderful sights and sounds around the Dallas metroplex.
Every Sunday between Nov. 25 and Dec. 31, you can enjoy an afternoon full of holiday-related activities. Kids can pet real, live reindeer or have their pictures taken with Santa Claus in the jolly man’s reindeer-powered sleigh. Go for a ride on a horse-drawn carriage, navigate a 100-tree Christmas tree maze, view a holiday figurine collection, hear choir groups and other musicians perform holiday songs and meet costumed characters such as Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
Gaylord Texan’s popular ICE! exhibit will feature 2 million pounds of ice, hand-carved by visiting artisans from Harbin, China. In addition to previous favorites, visitors of the 14,000-square-foot exhibit will discover a three-level ice slide, a gingerbread family, penguins, a walk-through Nativity scene, and much, much more.
Sundance Square Sparkles with the Spirit of the Season!
The signs of Christmas surround you this season in Sundance Square – from the spirited holiday music that fills the air to the festively decorated and lighted downtown buildings. Visitors will marvel at the magnificient 56-foot Christmas tree adorned with thousands of sparkling lights, glistening snowflakes and bright red ornaments that seems to rise magically from the red brick Main Street.

Friday Dec. 8, 2006 Ladytron will perform at Hailey’s in Denton, Texas. Also performing are Dreamtiger and The Burning Hotels. It would be safe to say that this is going to be a massive party, so you will want to arrive early!! Hailey’s says no cover for the night which is hard to believe and I found the flyer (above) which states tickets are available through camelsmokes.com—-and you have to sign up first…and have a login ID and password and all that jazz. The site is not working properly at this time but when I find out about tickets, I will pass the info along. You can also get help finding tickets by calling 1-866-988-8800—which sends you to your local camel rep. So basically this place is going to be smokin!!

As everyone knows, voting day is today…hopefully everyone or at least many made it out to the polls or opted for the early voters ballot. Honestly there is almost no excuse for not casting a vote…if anything it either gives you boasting rights or the authority to complain for a few years. If you don’t vote, don’t complain..enough said. The polls should be coming to a close, and the votes are already starting to come in…Last time I checked Kinky Friedman held 139,672 votes – 11%...while Dem. Chris Bell 394,990 votes – 30% , Rep. Rick Perry 532,320 votes – 40%. It will probably be a win for the Rep. incumbent but hopefully it won’t be a complete slaughter. Texas is notorious for low voter turnout, maybe this year more people will get their voice heard. Somtimes a third party vote can be a wasted vote, but seriously when you are sick of choosing between the lesser of two evils, what else do you have…a jewish cowboy!!!

This is the new video from Norwegian new-gazers, Serena-Maneesh. The song is called ‘Saphirre Eyes’. Norwegian Serena Maneesh present their self-titled, full-length debut Serena Maneesh with eleven songs that slide down a razor’s edge of distortion and pop whimsy, raucous guitar work and underwater static, angelic voices and primal screams. The strange melodies are strikingly original, yet they strike to the heart of something familiar: a classic rock guitar lick, a wound, a kiss.
See them in action this Thursday 09/28/06 @ Rubber Gloves in Denton,TX…if you can’t make it to Denton, you will get a chance to see them in Austin and in Houston over the weekend.
